After taking the world by storm with the surprise release of 2015’s If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, as well as having made numerous festival appearances, the self-proclaimed 6 God returns to the throne with his fifth studio album Views.

The album, formerly titled Views From the 6, is dedicated to his hometown of Ontario, Canada.

The twenty-track collection is filled with Drake’s clever quips and one-liners, specifically on “U With Me?”, on which he claims he “always had [her] back, when all [she] did was front”.

Although the album is filled with good instrumentals and Drake-style wordplay, Views does have it’s low points. While most of the one-liners are creative, there are some that are rather cheesy, notably “got so many chains, they call me Chaining Tatum” on the Kanye West & Jay-Z assisted “Pop Style” (the two were eventually removed from the album version).

The album, albeit filled with Twitter bio-worthy quotes and Instagram captions, is just good, but nothing groundbreaking from Mr. Graham. It has the feel of a collection of twenty leftover tracks from Take Care.

Admittedly, I was very hyped for the album’s release. I even tuned into OVOSound Radio on Beats 1 to hear the premiere and live tweeted some of the notable one-liners. However, after having time to digest the record and allowing the initial excitement to wear off, I came to the realization that Views really does not sound different from his previous releases.

Views is currently available to purchase on digital retailers and is exclusively streaming on Apple Music.
